Speramus Meliora

GM

Anne Cahalan, she/her

Anne's father bought her the AD&D basic set box in the early 1990's and she was immediately hooked. She's played and DM'd various Dungeons and Dragons versions over the last <let's not think about the math> years. More recently, she's branched out into less crunchy and more narratively-focused games. She has a particular weakness for indie RPG Kickstarter campaigns, solo RPGs, and shiny dice.

Vaesen

Gameplay

Vaesen is a game of folk horror, of creatures that aren't supposed to be real and what happens when science and industry meet legend and lore. Players will investigate supernatural mysteries while social tensions ratchet ever higher in a familiar location: Detroit at the turn of the 19th century!

Summary

Called the best 5-cent cigar town in the country and the stove capital of the world, Detroit is already a manufacturing hub. As it prepares to host an International Exhibition in the prosperous nearby Delray village, the city has become a beacon calling to immigrants from across the globe. People are coming from Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, and the British Isles, from as far as Lebanon and as near as Alabama. And they are bringing their folklore with them: trolls and haints and Baba Yaga and jinn are joining the Puk-wudgies and Memengwesi that have been here for centuries.

But not everyone is welcoming of the new arrivals, and some of what they brought with them is not adjusting well to their new home...

Character Creation

No knowledge of Vaesen is necessary, we can do a character creation Session Zero at our first meeting.

Safety Tools

During session 0, your GM will introduce the concept of lines and veils and set aside time to establish those as a table. X cards will also be present for in-session boundary setting.
